Hi friends,

Here is this week’s list of what I’m exploring and thinking about. Feel free to forward this along to friends.

What I’m watching

Only Murders in the Building. A hilarious comedy mystery series with Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. I’ve been enjoying my nightly wind-down to this show to destress at the end of the day.

How I’m training in the gym

Now that the beach volleyball season has come to an end, my training has shifted toward improving stability and increasing muscle mass. Stability is a hard term to define, but I think of it as the foundation at which your body generates strength. By improving stability, you can decrease the odds of sustaining an injury and improve the amount of force production. I’m working on developing a stability and injury prevention program to share so stay tuned.

Book I’m listening to

Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold has been an icon and inspiration to many. The Austria-born actor, politician, and former bodybuilder writes about his life and the wisdom he’s obtained. The book boils down to one concept, be useful, which was something his father ingrained in him.

Video I’m contemplating

Who We Are by Donnie Vincent. A video on the emotional aspect of hunting that has made me think about where my food comes from. It’s easy to see food on a plate and eat it mindlessly. It’s difficult to think that what you are eating was once alive. Grocery stores and markets make it easy for us to forget that the meat we buy comes from real, living animals. Because when we think about what had to happen to get that meat, it makes us uncomfortable. But stopping before each meal to appreciate the food and meat in front of me has opened up a new door of gratitude for life itself.

Quote of the week

“How vain it is to sit down to write when you have not stood up to live.”

Henry David Thoreau

Until next week,
