August 18, 2024: Where Are Your Priorities?

Hi friends,

This week I want to talk about priorities. By definition, a priority is something that is regarded as more important than something else. Unfortunately, we have a finite amount of time in a day and can only choose a handful of priorities to devote time to.

My physical therapy mentor, Jake Perotto, said something this past week that opened my eyes: “People will spend 40 minutes driving to a new restaurant but won’t drive 20 minutes to get good healthcare.”

My first response was to laugh at this remark, but then it saddened me how true it is. Why is it that when it comes to making choices about our health, we settle for convenience?

Many of us prioritize things like work, relationships, and entertainment. But when it comes to our health, how many of us actually make it a priority?

Health is the foundation on which the rest of our values stand. It often takes a serious health scare, or the death of a loved one to realize that we are nothing without good health.

This message is not to scare you into eating more fruits and veggies. It’s to let you see that if you don’t take your health seriously now, there may be a day when you regret not doing something sooner.

We have the tools today to help mitigate/prevent chronic diseases that ail many people in society today: cardiovascular disease, metabolic disease, metabolic syndrome, and cancer.

While there’s not a magic formula to improve your health and eliminate disease, you can take the steps to educate yourself on things you can do to take your health into your own control.

If you are interested in learning more about how to live a healthier/longer life, I’ve recommend Peter Attia’s book Outlive many times before and I will continue to do so.

Until next week,

Kevin

❤️ Things I’m Enjoying This Week

  1. Minimalist shoes - These Xero shoes have been the best minimalist shoes I’ve tried yet. Minimalist shoe’s aren’t known for their appealing stylistic choices, but the Xero’s look reasonable for what they bring to the table.

  2. Book - I just finished Copywriting Secrets by Jim Edwards. Copywriting is a foreign topic to me so this was a nice introduction in learning how to write effective copy as a beginner.

  3. Playlist - My Sinatra playlist is a go-to winddown mix to get ready for bed and relax.
